It’s always bothered me that people think this! This proposal was literally one of my favorite scenes in the show. Why? Because it felt genuine. It wasn’t about a “big romantic moment”. That was Max. That was Logan. That was even a bit of Christopher. But that wasn’t Luke and Lorelai. He loved Rory, and Rory was her world. She saw that, and just knew that this was it. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, and nothing else mattered. Who cares if there’s not 1000 yellow daisies?
Another reason I love this proposal so much is because finally, Lorelai is the one taking the reins. Usually it’s Luke that does everything for her - and yes, she loves him, and she knows it, and he does too, but she’s not always good at showing it. And so, for once, it was Lorelai’s turn to profess her feelings and to be in the fragile position of possible rejection (though that would never have happened, it’s still a scary place to put yourself in). I thought it was very in-character for Lorelai propose, and yet it also signified quite a bit of character growth for someone who always seemed to wait for the guy to make the first move.
This will forever be one of my favorite proposals ever (perhaps only matched by Sookie and Jackson’s).
this is everything I think and more
